Drawings

Now that I’m back at work full time, I realize that daily blogging during the week is too much for me. So I think I’ll post on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from now on. With maybe an occasional weekend post.

Today is day 244 of my daily art project for 2016. Which means there’s only 1/3 of the year left! Also, I decided to keep my “free-for-all” art theme for September because I will also be participating in a free 30 day journaling challenge but I probably won’t share that on here.

Anyway, here are yesterday and today’s art: a white mandala and a shoe print zentangle.

Weekend update

In case any of you were wondering, I didn’t post on Friday because I had a long day of cleaning at work and an evening of dancing which didn’t leave much time for in depth creating and blogging. In fact, my daily art was a quick sketch on a previously painted journal page. When I looked at the page, I immediately saw the elephant shape and the lady bust so I decided to sketch Marie-Elephantoinette! See what I did there?!?

I will paint her at a later date. And over the weekend, I kept things simple again with some doodling on the painted branch for Saturday and a mandala on Sunday.

Finally, today, I altered my third and last clipboard. Once again, I only used acrylic paints (Americana and Distress) and stencils (Penny Black, The Crafter’s Workshop, and unknown for the fairies). And I decided that fairies were a great addition to go with the butterflies and birds.

I’ll show you when all three clipboards will be on the wall.

Street theatre festival

Tonight was the first night of our local street theatre festival which occurs annually. I try to go see at least one show each year. This time, I was able to see 5 shows already. Of the 5, I really liked the first, a synchronized performance of two “supermarket cashiers”, and the last, a combination of tango and fire. I least enjoyed the improv show and found interesting the street performance (4 people dressed in black with yellow lines, literally performing as a moving street), and the orchestra of crows which you can see a bit in this low quality photo:

And inspired by tonight’s shows, I made this really quick drawing in less than 5 minutes.

After a long day of meeting after meeting at work and 3 hours of watching street theatre, I’m too tired to do anything more. So good night and thanks for visiting.

Tree ATC trio

My first day back to work was fine but I’m quite tired tonight. So for my daily art, I simply drew some whimsical trees on watercolor ATCs. I then colored them in with markers which I then diluted and spread with a waterbrush to have a watercolor feel. Simple and fun.

Back to reality

Just for a little while…

My summer vacation is over and I’m going back to work at the school. I’m not complaining, just facing the fact. And it’s fine because I love my job. But it means I might be creating a lot of mandalas, zentangles and other quick art for a little while, until I get used to my schedule again. Then again, you never know when inspiration will strike.

Today being my last official day of vacation, I spent it with family members, shopping and hanging out (also celebrating my brother’s birthday.) I only got to do my art in the evening and ended up with a quick art journal page. When I say quick, I mean that I probably spent less than 30 minutes on it, including looking for a few items. This is the end result:

This is what I used: Americana acrylic paints with a brayer and a dry brush; Hero Arts ink dauber; alphabet stamp from Stampin’ Up (used to be a roller stamp); ink from Stampin’ Up; various washi tapes; American Crafts alphabet stickers; Gold Foil Color Bloom Spray; and my trusty Fude Ball pen.

Weekend update

Another busy weekend has come and gone. Once again, I kept my daily art simple with a mandala and a zentangle. I rarely draw specific shapes when doing my zentangles but this time, for some reason, I started drawing a cup. And I really like how it turned out.

For today, I went for another set of postcards. But this time, I played with watercolors. I painted rather quickly, without thinking too much and I like most of what I did. My favorite is the green “snowflakes” which were supposed to be mandalas. My brush was too big for any detail work so I left it as is. To draw on top of the other postcards, I used my Fude Ball 1.5 pen.

Alcohol ink postcards

Since starting this daily art project, I’ve been using techniques and products I hadn’t touched in a long time. And today was no different. I brought the alcohol inks out and some glossy paper which I cut to postcard size, 4″ x 6″.

I’m not sure if I’ll leave them as is or if I’ll add to them. I could draw with a Sharpie, or stamp with StazOn ink, or even collage on top. What do you think?

Once again, thanks for visiting and have a nice weekend!
