Week 7 of 365 Somethings

I have a question for you today: How do you use your rubber stamps besides making cards? I seem to have a hard time using them other ways which is what I attempted during week 7 (February 12th to 18th.)

  1. I started the week with a card because I needed one for my secret Valentine at work (those of us who participated picked a name and I got the teacher with whom I share the classroom so I was really happy about it!) But this card is different because the heart is actually a pocket and I had tucked a square chocolate in there.
  2. While I was happy with the card I had made, I decided it wasn’t enough so I made a treat bag the next day. I was able to put a couple tea bags (caffeine-free mint tea) and, if I remember correctly, four chocolate squares (individually wrapped Ghirardelli chocolates.) I ended up giving the card to another co-worker and the treat bag to my Valentine.
  3. On Valentine’s day itself, I decided I was over the day’s theme! I used an old file folder and a variety of papers to make a journal/sketchbook. I have a set of stamps I had bought especially for journals so it was the perfect reason to use them.
  4. When you have too many stamps and too much cardstock, you make your own patterned cardstock! Here, I used border stamps over and over and decided to stick to tone-on-tone for the colours. Now, I have to challenge myself to actually use these cardstocks!
  5. Finally, another way I was able to use some stamps was by making my own wrapping paper. I used plain kraft paper (the kind you use to wrap breakables) and a couple of stamps repeated in a few colours. It doesn’t make a very bright paper but when you know it’ll just end up in the recycling bin, does it really matter?

I only have two more weeks to share with you before posting about other things like my March vacation and ICAD. I might also show you a few craft projects made by my students. Until then, I have a nice weekend!

Index-Card-A-Day 6 to 11 and a blog break

On the 6th, I forgot to make my Index card so instead, on the 7th, I taped two cards together. For those, I decided to test my homemade ink sprays with some paper stencils. On the 8th, I decided to fold the card into a butterfly. It’s one of my favourite origami models. On the 9th I tested my MKA stamp with printing inks. On the 10th, I had no idea what to do and it was late so I wrote a few words which were bouncing around in my head. And on the 11th, I played with a set of gel pens.

I have decided to take a small break from blogging. I will be back on the 24th, my first day of summer holiday! Until then, have fun and keep on making the world beautiful!
