Cruising along

I love traveling. I’m lucky to have been able to go on many trips so far. When I was a teenager, my parents took my brother and I to Florida where we visited Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal Studio and more. It was my first time out of the country. I also spent a long weekend in New York City while in high school. In my early 20s, I went on a couple of trips on my own (almost gave my parents heart attacks!) to meet online boyfriends (yes, yes, I know… it was crazy…) Those trips brought me to Flint, Michigan and Green Bay, Wisconsin. After that, the real traveling began. Two weeks in Italy with an aunt. Four weeks backpacking through England, Ireland and Scotland with a friend. Two weeks in Europe: Barcelona, South of France (in the Corbières) and Paris. Finally, this year, my first cruise!

My aunt, my mother and I went on a seven day cruise in the Caribbean this past March and I absolutely loved it. We were supposed to go to San Juan, Puerto Rico and Amber Cove, Dominican Republic but due to a big storm in the Atlantic, our captain decided to change the course a bit. So we spent one day at sea instead of stopping in San Juan because the port was closed. Then, instead of Amber Cove, we went to St-Thomas in the Virgin Islands. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather. We decided early on that we weren’t going on expeditions during this trip. We wanted to relax, enjoy the beaches and do some shopping. Our second stop was Philipsburg, St-Maarten. It got really hot on that day so after lunch, we left the beach for a bit of shopping. Our last stop was Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas which is Holland America Line’s private island. There’s only one word to describe that place: paradise. The beach was beautiful, the water so clear and the food delicious. All in all, I had a great trip. I loved the experience and hopefully I’ll be able to go on more cruises in the future. As long as I wear anti-seasickness patches, I’ll be fine!

PS. Every night, we’d find a different animal made from towels in our room. The monkey was definitely my favourite!

Photo Friday – Cubières sur Cinoble (France)

I couldn’t pick only 9 photos like last time for the 4 days when we were in the mountains in the South of France. So I tried my hand at making a slideshow. The photos were taken in Cubières sur Cinoble, Cucugnan (including the Quéribus castle), Peyrepertuse, Carcassonne, Le Barcarès (the beach) and Toulouse. I think that this was my favourite part of the trip, though I loved Paris (which you’ll see next week.) The people were so friendly and it was very relaxing there. I would go back in a heartbeat if I could.

Photo Friday – The best of Barcelona

For this Photo Friday, I’m showing you a few of my favourite photos taken by me and my mother in Barcelona. Between the two of us, we took almost 900 photos in Barcelona alone and my brother took way more than that on his own. The photos here are: 1- one of the many palm trees seen in the city; 2- the Sagrada Familia; 3- the stairwell inside the Sagrada Familia; 4- a cat posing in Park Guell; 5- my mother and the lizard/dragon fountain; 6- Barcelona seen from very high up (the highest we went); 7- lots of different architecture in Barcelona; 8- the three of us enjoying a beer (have you seen the size of these???) on La Rambla; 9-yours truly in front of a blooming cactus.

Next week, I’ll show some of my favourites from when we were in the mountains in the south of France.
